Governance, State Building and the Rule of Law

More than 90 experts from 13 Arab countries, 17 regional and international organizations and 7 european institutions participated to the Sixth Annual Conference of the GIFT-MENA Network that was held in Marrakesh, Morocco, from the 10th to the 12th of February 2015, under the theme: “Governance, State Building and the Rule of Law".

The conference, organized jointly by the Ministry of Civil Service and Administrative Reform of Morocco, the Institut des Finances Basil Fuleihan of Lebanon – Secretariat of the network, the Arab Planning Institute of Kuwait and the France Expertise, with the support of the Governance Department of the French Embassy in Morocco and the ESCWA, and with the contribution of the ARADO, IASIA, OECD, UNDESA and UNOSSC, was a unique meeting time for actors of change in governments, society and development organizations operating in MENA countries to dsicuss in depth issues of governance, modernization, value for money and capacity development. The event offered a platform to:

  1. Engage in a policy debate about capacity in Government as an important enabler of Human Development, Growth and Stability in the Arab world
  2. Provide Arab countries with ideas and instriuments that would help achieve greater policy coherence and performance in support of improved governance
  3. Foster coordinated cooperation and partnership-building as well as technical and financial support by international partners to the governance agenda in MENA 

On this occasion, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the National School of Administration of Morocco and the Bahrein Institute of Public Administration.

The conference was organized back-to-back with the Network Meeting on February 10th, 2015. A Steering Committee Meeting also took place on February 12th, 2015, with the participation of regional and international organizations.
